The point about education is that every international league table shows that education is the reason why the UK economy (ie UK capitalism) is not very good. You see, the whole of capitalism revolves round teachers. A decision was made about 35 years ago to give up on manufacture and go for banking, insurance and gambling. That was teachers’ fault. Then the bankers, insurers and gamblers went bust. That was teachers’ fault. Now to solve this, people are kept out of work or given part-time jobs or given wage cuts. That’s teachers’ fault. Then the economy doesn’t grow because people haven’t got money to buy things. That’s teachers’ fault. It all shows up on the PISA tables. It’s all there. Teachers need to buck up.
