Will the real Boris Johnson please stand up: Cashless bus fares in London
On Sunday July 6th London buses will stop taking cash fares.
For those of us who are regular travellers on London’s buses, were we to look at it from a purely selfish point of view, this is good news. People fumbling for change holds up the bus.
However you won’t get far in life if you go through it with the perspective of selfishness.
What else is as stake here?
Firstly not taking cash fares will save TFL the cost of collecting and banking cash. What they plan to do with the saving I’m not sure. Perhaps they could use it to build a lego model of a Boris bus.
Secondly of course pretty much any regular traveller on London’s buses uses an Oyster card, which is pre-paid, so for the majority the change means nothing.
